Muiderslot

We went to three museums last week.
My children sure had a lot of culture during their holiday!
On Sunday we went to Muiderslot which is an old castle near Amsterdam. It is quite beautiful and when the wind isn't trying to blow you away you can take a lovely stroll around the grounds.
It was cold and I must admit I was pretty happy when we left the place, just to be warm again.
Thank goodness I do not live in medieval times!

Weekly Menu

We're on a budget and when you are on a budget then planning is everything.
So here is the menu plan for this week, let's hope I stick to it!

Weekly Wrap Up

Sorry I've been so quiet.
You see I've been crazy busy with the kids since it was the school holiday all week and quite frankly I'm exhausted! Trying to entertain kids is not easy when it rains all day long.
Rain, rain, go away and don't come back another day.
Honestly, we've done it all. Painting, playing with clay, sewing snakes, watching television, playing with Lego, going to the movies, making origami, baking pancakes, playing hide and seek in the house, going to a museum in town and playing in a kids play area with lots and lots of sand.
Today I had high hopes of being outdoors but it was dashed with the pouring rain.
So here are a few photos of our weekend in Twente, where the weather also sucked but it was dry most of the time!

Have a great weekend!!

Thinking about...

The best cheesecake EVER!
Which I ate a the Theehuis Dennenoord in Nutter a.k.a the middle of nowhere.
Past Enschede and close to Germany.

Well that is where we had a little birthday lunch for the husband yesterday.
I couldn't resist ordering the white chocolate cheesecake with a dark chocolate crust.
Let's just say it was like heaven on a plate.
Good thing we live about 2 hours away so I can't go back to have more.
Because this cheesecake is so worth it.

Happy Valentines Day!

In celebration of valentines day I made cute little bags for the girls based on a great tutorial from lbg Studio. And hearts, of course, from the purl bee.

The best part is that I used an old denim from my husband and it is nice to 'repurpose' something, do you know what I mean? The only problem might be that both girls want the pink bag but I'll deal with that problem when it happens.

Hope you have a lovely day and a great weekend ahead!!

P.S. Happy birthday on Sunday to the love of my life. xxx

Pin Cushion

I was getting really tired of trying to pick pins out of a little box and then it hit me. Why don't I just make myself a pin cushion! Duh! Pinterest provided more than enough inspiration.

I found a tutorial on Creative Kismet and Whip Up. It was pretty easy and I am more than happy with the result! Of course I need to work on my hand sewing technique since I don't even know what a slip stitch is... but I'm going to remedy that by taking a sewing course.

If you need a pin cushion then this definitely is the one to make!
P.S. My little pony thinks so too.

Mini Muffins

So I cheated.
I bought the mini muffins at the Lidl.
The kids wanted to decorate something and the mini muffins seemed like a good idea.
I was tired and couldn't even imagine switching on the oven to bake anything.
They helped me whip up some thin icing to basically use like glue (icing sugar + water).
It worked a charm.
The kids were quiet and distracted for at least 20 minutes.
Of course they did have a bit of a sugar rush afterwards...
Still cheating is allowed every now and again ;-)

Hope you have a happy week!

Look at those dainty little fingers :-)

Never Too Young to Start Sewing

Heidi and Stella copy most things I do.
This of course includes my latest sewing hobby.
Stella sticks pins in everything.
Heidi actually creates little dolls with a needle and thread.
Kids are just so creative!

P.S. Did I mention I've made a three skirts for the girls, a pin cushion, another penguin and two hot water bottle covers!! Yes, I'm a little obsessed!

Toasted Bagel with Avo and Bacon

The perfect lunch. Or breakfast for that matter.
A toasted bagel with butter, lettuce, avocado, bacon and a drizzle of honey mustard dressing.
I want to make it every single day.

Of course I won't but it is very tempting and I bought another avo yesterday, you know, just in case. It was 'American' week at the Lidl and that is where I found the bagels (and the jelly beans and the mini chocolate muffins...).

The kids love bagels too so I guess this week there will be more than one bagel on my plate.
Have a great week everyone!
