August Break: Lines

I was going to search for interesting lines outside today but then I remembered that I have a very busy day ahead of me... so as I sat at my kitchen table, trying out my awesome new birthday present pens the lines just started forming themselves.

Illustrating Frames

I had a flash of inspiration and wanted to draw a little frame.
Probably because I actually love framing pictures.
I even went one step further and imported the drawing into illustrator and converted it to a vector drawing using image trace. Whoohoo. Sounds impressive, right? Well it is not really but it does mean I can do a bit more with the drawing if ever I should want to.

Here is the original drawing with some colour added framing Stella on her bike:

Here are two versions the converted drawing. Cool, right? I love this stuff!

Do you like it? I feel like drawing some more now :-)

Poster for Pottery Tree Workshops in Woerden

My good friend Marcelle from Pottery Tree asked me to design a poster and flyer for the workshops she will be holding at OOK in Woerden in March and April.

Sign up for a workshop! It is a lot of fun to paint on crockery and I for one love the teapot which is what I used as inspiration for the poster.

Have a great weekend!!

Painting with Stella

This was my Monday morning.
Stella painting, me dabbling a bit on some old paper I found in a drawer.
Bliss.

Until Stella started experimenting with pouring water on paper.
Then the fun stopped and the cleaning started.
Kids.

Books Illustration

Some days I just want to stay in bed and read books all day long.
And have warm coffee.

It's not going to happen but one can always dream and draw.

Onion Soup with Red Wine

I had red wine.
I had lots of onions.
I felt like having soup.
So yes, I made french onion soup with red wine instead of the usual white wine.
Will I do this again? I'm not sure. It was a good soup but somehow I prefer white wine version... The recipe was supposed to be quick onion soup but trust me, you need to cook the onions over a low heat for at least an hour because that is the only way you will get them to be soft and sweet.
Here is a little illustration I made with pen and water colour of the BBC recipe ingredients:

Hamburger Illustrated Recipe

Let's start the week with a little illustration (good old fashioned pen on paper with bad spelling) of a basic hamburger recipe we had for dinner last week. If you can even call it that because making hamburgers is mostly a matter of stacking stuff on a bun. I like to mix a few herbs and spices into beef mince and then shape the patties myself but hey, I'm not judging anyone for buying them ready made!

Personally my own view is the more stuff you can pile onto a hamburger the better... you know, lettuce, onion, tomato, gherkins, ketchup, mustard, cheese, bacon, etc.

Have a great week!

Mmmm... Illustration

I'm trying to figure out this year's Christmas cards and it is not as easy as I want it to be...

I played with watercolours and pen drawings and I'm just not happy. Maybe I'll do a lino cut again. But whatever I do better happen soon or else I'll be buying Christmas cards this year!

Yoghurt Barn Illustration

I had a glorious breakfast on Tuesday morning at the Yoghurt Barn in Utrecht. They really do make the best yoghurt in town. Not that I'm an expert but that merry berry special yoghurt that I ordered was excellent. You know it, I'll be back!

Here is a little illustration of my breakfast:

Oh, and I hope you all have a happy halloween! I was going to try and bake something fun for the kids but I must admit I just don't have the energy for baking today. And you know that I'm a firm believer that your mood influences the results of your cooking / baking. There is a big chance that I might risk making pancakes tonight though... or rather, I'll ask my husband to make them!

Heidi's Book

My little Heidi loves drawing and making up stories.
She's 'written' a few books before but this time she asked me to take a photo of it so it must be special. My husband filled in the actual words for her later. He also had to read it to the kids twice already as their bed time story.

Here it is with a very short interpretation of her illustrations:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Watermelon Illustration

A little later than planned, but I've been so wrapped up with my photography course that I barely had time to do an illustration!

Here is an illustration of the delicious watermelon we've been eating all week.
